Locating job security these days is incredibly rare. Businesses often drop us out of the workplace at a moment's notice - as long as it fits their needs. We can however locate market-level security, by searching for areas that have high demand, coupled with work-skill shortages.
Taking the computer sector as an example, the last e-Skills investigation highlighted major skills shortages in Great Britain around the 26 percent mark. It follows then that for each four job positions available around computing, employers can only locate enough qualified individuals for three of them. This glaring certainty underpins an urgent requirement for more properly qualified Information Technology professionals across the country. As the Information Technology market is increasing at such a speed, is there any other market worth investigating for retraining.
For a really well rounded networking career-path, you could think of adding the Microsoft MCSE or 'MCSA' to your A+, 'Network+' and 'CCNA' package. Be sure to talk over your training choices with an industry expert before settling on your way forward - not only will it help you save time and money, it will also ensure that you're taking the correct path from the beginning.
Many certification companies still use the slightly musty old method of classroom attendance. Usually touted as a major benefit, if you track down someone who's been through a few, don't be surprised to be lectured on several if not all of these problems:
- Multiple back and forth visits - normally 100's of miles.
- If you're working, then Mon-Fri classes are difficult to make. You could be having to deal with 2-3 days at a time as well.
- Holiday days lost - many working people are given only twenty days of leave annually. If over half of it is swallowed up by training days, vacation time is going to be quite short for the student.
- Training workshops usually end up overly large as well.
- A lot of attendees hope to push through at quite a pace, others want a more steady pace and not be pushed beyond their comfort-zone. This generates tension and unrest a lot of the time.
- A lot of trainees speak about the high (and unexpected) costs associated with getting transport to and from the training centre while covering the cost of accommodation and food gets very high.
- A lot of attendees want study privacy and therefore avoiding all repercussions in their job.
- Asking questions in front of other class-mates will sometimes make any one of us a little uncomfortable. Surely, at some point, you've avoided asking a question because you honestly thought you might seem thick?
- It should be remembered that events become pretty much impossible to attend, in cases where you work away for days at a time.
It would be better to watch on-screen and gain knowledge from teachers one-to-one via filmed modules, taking them when it suits you - not somebody else. Training can take place wherever it suits you. If you have a laptop, take in a little fresh air outside while you learn. Any difficulties and logon to the 24x7 support facility. It really doesn't matter how many times you feel you need to repeat something, on-screen instructors are never going to run out of patience! And remember, as an added bonus, you can forget taking notes. It's already there for you. Essentially: You avoid a bunch of hassle, save money and time, and completely avoid polluting the skies.
